How skilld works

Find a local pro, agree on the job, and get it done — no accounts to chase, no middleman on the money.

skilld will never ask you for money.
skilld — or anyone claiming to be from skilld — will never ask you to pay skilld, send a deposit to skilld, or share a card, gift-card, or bank number to “hold” a booking. You pay your provider directly for the work, and no one else. If anyone tells you otherwise, it is a scam — stop and email [email protected].

From “I need help” to done

1
Find a provider.
Search by what you need — “house cleaning”, “fix a fence”, “mow my lawn” — or browse by category. You don’t have to know the exact trade; describe the job and we’ll point you at people who do it.
2
Message them.
Send a note describing your project. The provider replies in the same thread, and you get a text when they do (if you added your number). Ask questions, share photos, and work out what you need — all in one place.
3
Agree on the details.
When you and the provider settle the scope, time, and price, you both confirm it. The price is whatever you two agree — you set it directly with the provider, not with skilld.
4
Book it, then review.
The job goes on the calendar. After it’s done, leave a review so the next customer knows what to expect. That’s it — no fees, no subscription on your side.

Quick Book vs. messaging

Some providers offer Quick Book: set jobs at a set price and time you can grab without any back-and-forth. You pick one of their open slots and it’s held for them to approve — handy when you already know exactly what you want. Messaging is for everything else: when the job needs a conversation first, start a thread and work it out together. Same providers, two ways in.

What it costs (spoiler: nothing, for you)

  • skilld is free for customers. Browsing, messaging, quotes, and booking cost you nothing.
  • The provider pays skilld a small booking fee when they accept a job — that’s how skilld keeps the lights on. It’s their fee, not yours.
  • You pay the provider directly for the work itself, whatever the two of you agreed — cash, check, or however they take payment. skilld only ever charges the provider’s booking fee; skilld never touches the money for the job.
  • skilld will never ask you for payment. If someone claiming to be skilld asks you to pay skilld directly, it’s a scam — see the note at the top of this page.

A courtesy that keeps this working

Your provider blocks out real time for your job and often turns down other work to hold it. If you need to cancel, please give at least 24 hours’ notice so they can fill the slot. It’s the difference between a pro who’s glad to work with you again and one who isn’t — and it keeps good people on the platform for everyone. See our refund policy for how cancellations affect the provider’s booking fee.
